Where do I find the rules and regulations for hunting and fishing?
Each state publishes guidebooks annually that contain the rules and regulations for that year. It is important to check these guidebooks every year because they often change from year to year. PDFs can be found and downloaded on each state’s webpage. Hardcopies can also be found at your local Town Clerk and or affiliated retail stores.

Do I need a hunting license to book a guided hunting trip?
Yes. All hunters on a guided trip require a state hunting license and the associated stamps or permits for the state and game they will be hunting. A hunting license, stamps and permits can be purchased online at the CT DEEP Online Licensing System for CT, the MassFishHunt licensing page for MA and the RI Outdoors homepage for RI. Licenses can also be purchased at certain retail outlets as well as your local Town Clerk. *New customers will need a firearm and/or archery safety certificate(s) to purchase a hunting license. See the next question for details on obtaining your hunter safety certificate.
How do I get my firearms and/or archery safety certificate(s) (a prerequisite for obtaining a hunting license)?
The CT DEEP and RI DEM offer free Hunter Safety Courses either in-person or online. Details for each state can be found in the links below. Once the course(s) are completed, a certificate of completion is awarded and used to purchase your hunting license.

Do I need a hunting license to enroll in a training program or seasonal class?
No. The training programs and classes provided are designed to teach students about how abiotic parameters (atmospheric pressure, sunlight, temperature, water, humidity, etc.) influence plant, animal, and fungal presence, abundance and behavior. It is, however, highly recommended to obtain a hunting license for deer, duck and turkey classes. The guided hunts are essentially lab exercises where what we learn is employed.
Do I need a fishing license to book a fishing trip?
No. All registered charter boats possess a blanket license for all parties aboard.
Do I need to bring my own equipment for a guided fishing trip?
No. All fishing equipment (i.e. rods, reels, tackle & bait) are provided. You are welcome to bring your preferred equipment, however, please check with the captain prior to your trip to verify if your equipment is suitable for the type of fishing we will be doing.
Do I need to bring my own equipment for a guided hunting trip?
Yes and No. It is recommended that you bring your own hunting equipment and attire for guided scouting days and guided hunts. If, however, you do not have the necessary equipment for a hunt, equipment and attire can be provided for an additional fee. Details regarding equipment needed for the hunt will be discussed prior to each guided outing.
What are the age requirements for a guided hunting, foraging or fishing trip?
Hunting – The minimum age required to attend a guided hunt is 12 years old.
Foraging – No minimum age.
Fishing – No minimum age.
What should I wear for my guided hunting, foraging or fishing trip?
Hunting – Attire is dependent on the type of hunt as well as the weather conditions during the day of the hunt. Details regarding attire for the hunt will be discussed prior to each guided outing.
Foraging – Long pants and sleeves as well as closed-toed shoes. Hiking shoes are preferred, but sneakers are acceptable.
Fishing – It is recommended to wear clothing to protect you from the elements, mainly the sun and rain (if applicable). This includes: a hat; sunglasses; soft-soled, closed-toed shoes, sneakers or water shoes; and rain gear (we do fish in the rain). Please remember to bring sunscreen as well, especially during summer!
